What is an assessment?
An assessment is a means of ensuring that your needs are met in the most practicable way and measures are put in place to help you maintain your independence and quality of life within a home environment. Persons with physical impairment, visual or sight impairment, learning difficulties, and children with disabilities may all qualify for an assessment.

What equipment is available?
Equipment is classed as either ‘Simple Aids’ or ‘Complex Aids’.
Simple Aids include Raised Toilet Seats, Commodes, Perch Stool, Bathing Equipment, Walking Aids.
‘Complex Aids’ includes Hoist and Slings, Hospital Beds, Ramping Systems, Tilt in Space Shower Chairs and Rise Recliner Chairs.
If you have been assessed as needing Grab Rails these will be fitted by a member of Bexley Council’s Staying Put Team. If you need to contact Staying Put you should dial 0208 303 7777 and ask for Staying Put.

These are a few examples as the warehouse holds a range of over 300 different types of equipment. This is why an assessment is required to ensure your needs are met accordingly.
What do I do if my equipment develops a fault?
If your equipment develops a fault or becomes damaged you should contact the Equipment Loan Service on 0203 045 5465 or 5467 or 5464 and you will be able to discuss the issues with one of the admin team. Please note we are able to assist Monday – Friday, 09.am –17.00. For out of hour’s assistance, see below.
If the equipment has been in situ less than 3 years then in most cases we will arrange to replace it.There are a few exceptions such as Riser Recliner Chairs that we will need to refer to our contractor Prism Medical to arrange a visit to assess for repair. If the chair is unrepairable then you will be referred for re assessment via the Screener Team at Bexley Council.
Mobile Hoists, Hospital Beds, Powered Bathlifts, Rise Recliner Chairs, and Electric Leg Lifters are covered by a Maintenance Contract with Prism Medical who will contact you when a service is due. They will also carry out necessary repairs on the above equipment.
A PAT test and Loler Inspection will be carried out as part of the routine maintenance agreement. The above equipment is covered by an out of hours Emergency Officer. If you need assistance out of standard working hours including Bank Holiday and Weekends you should ring the Emergency Duty Officer on Bexley Council’s main number 0208 303 7777
Stairlifts, Ceiling Track Hoist, Vertical and Step Lifts fall under the remit of the Grants Department at Bexley Council and for any queries regarding this equipment within office hours you should contact them direct. I have finished with my equipment – How do I return it?
If you find that you no longer need the equipment provided you can contact the Equipment Service admin team and they will arrange a date to collect the items.
For smaller equipment you may wish to return these items direct to the warehouse in Slade Green. You can do so Monday – Friday between 09.00- 16.30 and a receipt will be issued.
The equipment service has dedicated collection runs for smaller aids and these are on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Larger equipment such as Hospital Beds and hoists are collected daily Monday to Friday.
Please discuss your collections requirements with a member of the admin team as we do understand that our collection days may not be suitable for you.

How do I get equipment?
To qualify for disability items on loan you will need to have an assessment carried out by a professional person such as a Social Care Occupational Therapist, or if you are undergoing hospital treatment, the hospital staff may assess your needs and order the most suitable items of equipment as part of your ongoing Care Package.
Your GP can also help advise you how to obtain the help needed.
Do you provide Paediatric Equipment?
Yes we do. This is a growing service and we have good links with the Children’s teams at Queen Mary’s Hospital and Bexley Council who order Paediatric equipment via our service.
We also have links to Special Needs Schools within the London Borough of Bexley.

Came for an assessment but was also helped with a walking stick and information on attendance allowance for us. For us, personally, you could not improve your service to us. You all attended my mother in a kind, friendly and professional way.
